I really like where you are going with these, but I'd say you're not quite there yet. They're a bit plain, but at the same time it's good that you're not overdoing it with colouring and textures and such — less is more. I think it's your use of text that is taking away from the icons, though — they're great pictures on their own, but the text doesn't add to the overall graphic. i.e. in #s 3 & 4, the words are just floating in space and don't compliment the picture. You do have nice cropping, especially in the first icon. In fact, I love everything about the first icon! Cropping, gorgeous colouring (nice and bright and colourful without being over-saturated) and the text compliments the space.

These are nice icons, but I would suggest working on text, and perhaps experimenting with different colouring... I really like what I saw in your latest post at your icon journal!

I'm sorry, but I think it's your extreme use of selective colouring. It's a good feature, but if it's used too much, it takes away from the icon. i.e. in #4 Kirsten Dunst's face is much too red. It looks a bit unnatural. Other than that, though, you've got a really nice style — nice cropping and use of textures. I like #s1 & 5 especially... :) I would just work on your colouring techniques.

I'm sorry but it's a no from me. These are nice, but they're a little too plain... You're off to a nice start but I would work on your colouring. There are many different tutorials you can find to help you learn new techniques, i.e. at icon_coloring... Also, I don't think I would put a border on each and every icon, but that might just be my personal preference. :) You do have some nice cropping and focus on each icon. I like #4 the best. :)

I was a little on the fence, but I'll go with a yes. (Ignore my other comment; I apologize! It was very late indeed. :/)

I actually like some of the icons from your last set better, but these are worthwhile, too. In #1, I think the coloring's a little pasty--and having a gray/white background makes it seem rather plain. I think the same occurs in #2. However, I do really like your other icons. #3's cropping is thoughtful, and, though I think it could stand a little more brightness, I think the coloring's fine. That green/gray area in #4 kind of throws me off, but otherwise the cropping is interesting. I think the structure of #5 is interesting, as well. #6 and 7 are both interestingly styled. Overall, I think you could keep experimenting with coloring, but I like your cropping and there's a really nice style, too. I'll say yes. :)

I'm going to go with a yes. I like these icons, and you seem to be developing quite a nice style. :) However, I'd watch out for oversharpening--#2, though it has an interesting effect, is a tad oversharpened. Edit > Fade Sharpen or a very weak blur may help. I like #6 because the cropping is interesting and the color in the eye really sticks out. The last one is also interestingly structured and nicely colored. I think #1 might have looked better without the text, but that's something to experiment with. Nice work!

I really like these! I think the cropping in them is lovely, and the coloring has a sort of nostalgic, almost "dusty" quality to it. I think it suits these style of icons very well. #6 and 7 are particularly good examples of this. However, I also really like the more crisp and clear coloring on #3 and #4--it's very refreshing, and the sharpening is done nicely, especially in #4. I'd be careful of washing out colors, however--it's most noticeable in the first icon, where the background is already white, and then the rest of the icon is kind of blending together. However, as a whole, I like these icons a lot. :)

Hey--I'm sorry it's been so long and no one's gotten back to you! It's a yes from me, though. I think your sharpening is very well-done, especially in icons 3 and 5, and I really like your coloring, as well. Overall, your style seems very simple but crisp, and I like it. I do think #2 could use a little more sharpening and the coloring in #1 (the bright outlines, I mean) might be a bit much, but it seems like you really know what you're doing. #5 is probably my favorite--nice cropping, perfect sharpening, and the coloring is so bright and clear. I think 4 is also interesting, though; capturing Bingley's profile and putting that kind of dark coloring to it gives it just the right mood.

I really like these samples, and remember to keep practicing. :)

I'm so sorry it's taken us so long to get back to you. I do like these samples, though.

I like your coloring all across the board--each one seems to suit the mood of the icon really well. 1 is a little darker and more pensive, 2 brighter and more frantic, 3 more vivid and dreamlike, etc. I think the coloring in 6 is really pretty; it gives the icon a very dreamlike feel. And the coloring in 7 is very bright and clear; really nice. I think your cropping is really interesting, too, though more experimentation would not be of any harm.

I'd say work on your text a little more (but then, I know that text on icons is one of the hardest things to get just right--it's something I haven't quite mastered myself)--just finding out what kinds of fonts suit what kinds of icons, and whether some icons might be better without text. I think I would have liked both 1 and 5 better without text in this case, or I might have chosen a smaller, less angular font so as not to draw attention away from the subject. But that's just a matter of experimentation and practice. :)

That said, I've looked at your icon journal, and your icons are excellent. I know this application was from a while ago, so some of these tips may not even apply. I like your icons a lot, however, and this is a yes. :)

I'm sorry it's taken so long for anyone to get back to you! It's a no for now, but I think you'll be just fine with a little more practice. :) The main thing here is to make sure your icons aren't oversaturated (as in icons 1 and 4) or too washed-out (as in icons 6 and 7). Also, remember that icons don't always need to have text--in most cases here, the text is really big and takes up much space and attention away from the actual subject matter. Smaller text, less obstrusive text, or no text at all can help. As for the coloring, try adding a Saturation Layer and playing around with that to see what kinds of colorings you can achieve. :)

On the other hand, though, I do like your cropping, especially in icon 4. It's creative but shows just enough perspective; I think it's really nice!

Overall, a little more practice should do it. Feel free to reapply in the future. :)

I'm sorry it's taken so long for anyone to get back to you! :/

I was a little on the fence when I saw just these icons, but I looked at your icon journal and it seems like you're definitely getting better and practicing and improving. Some of your most recent icon entries, especially, have excellent coloring and cropping.

On these icons--I like these, too, actually. Your coloring has a very dusty, nostalgic quality to it. Normally, I'm not a fan of icons that seem too washed out, but your icons seem to be colored that way as a stylistic choice, and it suits you. 1, 2, 4, 5, and 7 are all good examples of this. I think your grasp on cropping, as a whole, is pretty good, as evidenced by the variety of crops in these icons. Your use of text here, while the icons might be able to do without them, is not overly ostentatious, and in 3, it adds a certain feel of the elegance you hoped to portray. I really like icon 6 for its cropping, the black and white which contributes to the mood, and even the little light flecks that bring some color to it.

I loved the icons in your two most recent icon posts. I think the only thing to work on, really, is being careful about sharpening so that icons aren't too blurry (it may just be my monitor, but 1 and 7 seem a little hazy to me), and be wary of desaturating icons too much (icon 5). But really, you're doing fine on your own. It's a yes from me. :)

These are very nice, but I think you need some more practice. You have some nice icons — some are bright and croisp, and others are darker, some could use more contrast. In #1 Elizabeth looks a little too orange — perhaps it does not need to be so saturated, and the colour balance could be adjusted. #3 Needs more contrast — they are a bit washed out. I really like your cropping in all of these — it is interesting but focuses on the subject well. #4 is nicely done with bright, clear colouring.

Keep on practicing and try reapplying later. :)

These are lovely! I really like your colouring — it's rich and has a good contrast. The last three are nice and warm, and I especially like the fourth icon. I love what you've done with the backgrounds on the first two icons. It frames the subject well and in all the icons, the focus is strong. Very nice! I like that they're simple, too.

These are nice, but I think you need some practice. The last three icons' colouring needs some adjustment — there's too much green in the first Lizzy icon, and Mr and Mrs Bennet look too red in the last one. The middle icon looks to dark, in a way — curves or colour balance might also help. I really like your cropping. The colouring on the first two icons are very nice. They're nice and bright but also different. Keep it up!

It was a tough call for me, but I'm going with a no for now. Icons 2 and 7 are slightly oversharpened. Icons 4, 5, and 6, I think, could use a Color Balance layer--there seems to be a lot of red/orange, and Lizzie, in the fourth icon, has almost orange hair.

That being said, though, it was tough for me because I'm really quite fond of your cropping, especially in icons 2, 3, and 4. I also really like the structure in 6. 4 is sharpened just the right amount, and 3 is wonderfully emotional.

Please feel free to reapply soon!

I've always been a big fan of your icons, and you do very lovely things with them. Your use of texture and text is very sensitive and appropriate (i.e. with #1 and #5), and your cropping is consistently interesting throughout all of your icons.

I'd be careful of oversharpening in #1 and #6--it might be my monitor, but those look slightly grainy to me--or blurring too much, as in #4, where her skin looks almost CG. However, I think you achieved a pretty good balance in #2. I like your coloring best in #5. Some of the other icons seem to have a lot of "noise" (like #2 and #3). I actually think I like your other icons better, the ones I've seen at your journal, than the ones you posted here. But I know you're a very capable iconmaker, and would be glad to welcome you here.

I was kind of hesitant about my decision, but I'm going to go with a yes based on what I see here.

You have consistently nice sharpening in these seven icons; I think the first one is a little oversharpened--it looks a little grainy on my computer--but, other than that, all of these have a really good balance between being grainy and fuzzy.

Your coloring, for the most part, is also quite good--the blue is very vivid in #2 without making the subject of your icon look like some inhuman blob and #5 is also very vivid and her lips are very red but her skin still has a natural tone. I'm not quite sure about your coloring in #6 and #7, because it's the same subject but, in the one, her hair is closer to a carrot color and, in another, it's like fox fur. But I suppose Bonnie Wright might have dyed her hair or something and I just didn't know, which could account for the change. I like the use of the gradient in #4, but not as much in #3: I think a smaller gradient in the left corner would have worked better, because the transition from the gradient to her face looks too crude right now.

However, these are very lovely icons--my favorites are probably #2 and #5. It's a yes from me. :)

Oh my word, this application was posted so long ago! I'm really sorry for my horribly late reply. :(

With that said, however--your icons are gorgeous, and I'd love for you to post your icons here. You have a distinct style, and your icons are really simple, bright, and well-sharpened (I'm especially fond of #2 and #4 here). Your cropping is varied and interesting (center cropping, I think, works quite well for #3 and #5 but I appreciate the different angles in #1 and #4). Your colouring is bright and pleasing and, overall, I have much more to learn from you than you do from me! It's a hearty yes from me, and hopefully another mod will get to you shortly.

I'm terribly sorry for this late response. :(

This one was kind of tough for me, but for now, I'm going to say no. I do like some of your icons very much--personal favourites for me here were #3, #6, and #7. #3 has great colouring--the lighting really makes her face stand out as the focal point, which is good. It also looks simple, but elegant. #6 has some of your signature colouring, which is darker and at times too muddy (#1, #2) but in this particular icon it gives it a very classic, nostalgic feel. The sharpening is also just right--soft but clear. #7 is another example of your signature colouring gone right--it gives a picture that has spawned many icons a unique and tasteful feel. The cropping in that icon is good, but the colouring gives it that little extra kick.

However, as I've pointed out, from looking at your icon journal as a supplement, your colouring can often be too muddy. Even in #4 and #5 here, the colouring gives the face an unflattering tone--too pale/greenish in the former, and somewhat too ruddy in the latter. I would recommend using Colour Balance to try to make the skin look more natural, more a la #3, 6, 7. For icons like #1 and 2, I think a Screen layer at maybe 50% opacity definitely wouldn't hurt, and if it looks too flat or washed out with that, you could always add another layer of Vivid Light or Colour Burn, adjusting the opacity as you wish. I think you could also try experimenting more with cropping. Most of your crops seem to be very similar (#1, 3, 4 vs. #2 vs. #5, 6, 7).

However, the icons of yours that I like--3, 6, 7--I like very much. I would love to see you experiment more, try some of the things I mentioned, and apply again if the other 2 mods don't disagree with my assessment. All the best! ♥

I apologise for the late reply. :(

It's a yes from me. Sometimes, your icons edge on being a little too sharp (most notably #2 from your application), but, overall, you seem to have an excellent handle on icon-making. Your colouring is bright, vivid, and natural; your cropping is varied and interesting; and you seem to have a distinct style that you're very comfortable with. My favourite of your icon posts (of the several that I saw) is here, particularly the Mulan, Hercules, and Pocahontas ones. You make cartoon icons very well! Your other icons are also quite good. I think really my only suggestion is sometimes using the Edit > Fade Sharpen feature to make sure the icon doesn't look too grainy. But other than that, you seem to be experimenting a lot and improving a lot already, so there's really not much more for me to say! :)

Oh goodness I'm sorry for the late reply. :S

But yes! I do l love your icons. I love how you experiment and do different things — like the textures to #s 1-3, and the cropping with the stock picture in #6. Nothing is overdone but it all works together to compliment and enhance the subject. You also have different colour-styles you experiment with, from the lightness in #s 3 & 5, to the darker tones of #4 and 7.

I would be careful not to be too dark (#4) or too light (#3) sometimes, though it really does change with monitors and personal taste. #s 5-7 are my favourites. :)

These are gorgeous! I love how you've blended a lot of the pictures, especially in #4. The additional background in #2 works really well. You have a nice, unique style and I like your experimental colouring. The magenta-tones work really well and rarely seem overdone (except for maybe #3). #6 looks a little off... I think maybe it doesn't have enough "black" in it too balance the magenta colouring. Perhaps it just needs a bit more yellow or green to balance it?

Either way I like your style and would really like to have you contributing to the community!
